Carter Group’s beginnings can be traced back to 1912, when H Carter & Sons was established in Budleigh Salterton, East Devon, approximately 13 miles from Exeter in the south west of England.  After the retirement of one of the company founders, Carter Group was formed and to this day, it remains a family business.

The firm is successful in both domestic and civil building and development, with an established history of contracts. Involvement in civil contracts led the firm to another side of its business, that of plant hire and industry training. This has proved most successful over recent years and has complemented the building and civil division of the firm.

Carter Group also develops new build projects and developments in the local area with several construction projects under its belt.

Carter Group has been a member of the Construction Plant-hire Association as well as the Building Employers Confederation for over 20 years. More recently, Carter Training has become an approved centre for the provision of construction plant training and assessment, through a variety of awarding bodies and is also a accredited assessment centre for delivering NVQs in construction and civil engineering.

The firm carries public liability insurance of £2m and has employers liability insurance of £10m.
