To enable a national standard to be set within the schemes for various categories of plant, the total minimum number of accumulated training hours for a complete novice is as follows, in order to cover the mandatory module criteria:

- Industrial forklift, 35 hours
- Lorry loader, 35 hours
- MEWP boom, 14 hours

Candidates are required to complete a self-profile form to determine the level of experience on their specific item of plant. The more experience a candidate has, reduces the number of required accumulated training hours.
