To enable a national standard to be set within the schemes for various categories of plant, the total minimum number of accumulated training hours for a complete novice is as follows, in order to cover the mandatory module criteria:

  • Crawler tractor / dozer, 70 hours
  • Crawler tractor / side-boom, 35 hours
  • Crusher, 28 hours
  • Dump truck articulated, 35 hours
  • Dump truck rigid, 35 hours
  • Excavator 180, 70 hours
  • Excavator 360, 70 hours
  • Forward tipping dumper, 24 hours
  • Grader, 70 hours
  • Industrial forklift, 35 hours
  • Lorry loader, 35 hours
  • MEWP boom, 14 hours
  • MEWP scissor, 14 hours
  • Mobile crane, 70 hours
  • Ride on roller, 28 hours
  • Rough terrain fork-lift, 35 hours
  • Screener, 28 hours
  • Skid steer loader, 35 hours
  • Skip handler, 28 hours
  • Slinger / signaller, 21 hours
  • Soil / landfill compactor, 35 hours
  • Telescopic handler, 35 hours
  • Tower crane, 70 hours
  • Tracked loading shovel, 70 hours
  • Wheeled loading shovel, 35 hours

Candidates are required to complete a self-profile form to determine the level of experience on their specific item of plant. The more experience a candidate has, reduces the number of required accumulated training hours.
