Pembroke power station, Wales

6 April 2011

Pembroke power station is owned by RWE npower which, in 2008, entered into a £800 million contract with turbine manufacturers Alstom. The station is a 2,000MW natural gas-fired power project that is being built on the site of the former oil-fired power station which was closed in 1997 and demolished in 2000.

It will be a CCGT-type power station that uses natural gas.  The gas will come from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Milford Haven and not directly from a gas field.  There will be five 400MW modules, each with a 288MW Alstom gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine. The construction will be the largest power station built in the UK since Drax was completed in 1986. … More

Isle of Grain CHP power station, Kent

E.ON is the developer of a new power station on the Isle of Grain in Kent, built under a turnkey contract by Alstom for £580m.  Rated at 1,275MW, the station will consist of three gas-fired units using the very latest in combined cycle technology to produce enough electricity to supply around one million homes. As well as generating electricity, the power station will feature an innovative combined heat and power (CHP) scheme that will supply ”waste” heat to the nearby liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal, making Grain one of the world”s largest CHP plants. … More

Marchwood Power CCGT power station, Southampton

15 September 2009

Carter Group was instrumental in assisting in the construction of the Marchwood Power natural gas-fired combined cycle (CCGT) power station on the Marchwood Industrial Estate, adjacent to Southampton Water in Hampshire. The power station began generating electricity in December 2009 and will generate enough electricity to supply the needs of nearly one million homes – equivalent to the combined energy needs of Southampton, the New Forest and Winchester.
Carter Group was contracted by Seimens to provide lifting technology and training to the various contractors involved in the building of the £380 million power station.  Our contribution was vital for the project to meet the high standards needed to facilitate such a build and ensured that the project was at all times provided with a workforce that was adequately trained and certified to carry out their jobs safely, cost effectively and as efficiently as possible. … More
