City & Guilds - CITB / ICC

Intermediate Construction Certificate for Plant Operators

Full details of the scheme are available from your local CITB area office or the headquarters of the scheme at Kings Lynn.

NEW ENTRANT TRAINING (NE)

As the name suggests, these courses are designed for those who have little or no experience in machine operation. Their aim is to produce competent and safe operators by the end of the course. The qualification also counts towards a full NVQ later in 2000.

The courses provide comprehensive training in Health & Safety at work, mechanical awareness, fault finding and safe operational procedures. The training takes the form of modules of competence and is assessed at the end of each stage of the course. Following successful completion of the training, the operative is issued with a certificate from the City & Guilds & CITB and can apply for a CTA card separately. The modules of training carried out can later be used to work towards a Plant Operators NVQ.

EXPERIENCED WORKER ASSESSMENTS (EWA)

These courses are designed for those who have at least two years established experience in machine operation. Their aim is to allow the operative to add a category to his CTA card or to obtain a card for the first time. This qualification also counts towards a full NVQ. The operative must be over 21 years of age.

The courses provide assessment in Health & Safety at work, mechanical awareness, fault finding and safe operational procedures. The assessment takes the form of modules of competence and is assessed at the end of each stage. Following successful completion of the assessment, the operative is issued with a certificate from the City & Guilds & CITB and can apply for a CTA card separately. The modules of training carried out can later be used to work towards a Plant Operators NVQ.

CTA CARD RENEWAL (SBA)

Those operators that already hold existing CTA cards with categories claimed under the "Grandfather Rights" scheme, will be required to renew them by carrying out the new Health & Safety test, prior to completing a simple Site Based Assessment on each of the categories that they wish to renew on their card. Operators that attained their categories by carrying out full training or Experienced Worker Assessments will only have to carry out the new Health & Safety test to renew their card.

PLANT CATEGORIES

Operators can be trained and assessed by Carter Training instructors on most of the 45 categories within the CITB - City & Guilds ICC scheme, others by prior arrangement. Training can either take place at our training ground with our plant or our instructor can travel to your site if more convenient.

NEW REGISTRATION FEES

Course fees are standard at £20 irrespective of whether a category is being renewed or added. There are also additional fees to the City & Guilds - a one off lifetime fee of £35 per operator to register with the scheme and a fee of £7 per module for each module of assessment registered. On successful completion of an assessment or training the operator will be invited to apply for a CITB - City & Guilds ICC card, he will be issued with a City & Guilds certificate in any event.
