Marchwood Power CCGT power station, Southampton
Carter Group was instrumental in assisting in the construction of the Marchwood Power natural gas-fired combined cycle (CCGT) power station in Hampshire. The power station generates enough electricity to supply the needs of nearly one million homes –equivalent to the combined energy needs of Southampton, the New Forest and Winchester.
Carter Group was contracted by Seimens to provide lifting technology and training to the various contractors involved in the building of the £380 million power station. Our contribution was vital for the project to meet the high standards needed to facilitate such a build and ensured that the project was at all times provided with a workforce that was adequately trained and certified to carry out their jobs safely, cost effectively and as efficiently as possible.
We provided on-site training in the courses below for key personnel across a number of major multi-national contractors including Somi Impianti srl, Schone & Bruns, Bernhard Goldkuhle GmbH, Rommelmann, YIT and AIM GmbH:
Crane / lifting supervisor
Slinger / Signaller
MEWP boom and scissor lifts
Carter Group provided continual on-site supervision and professional expertise particular to crane and lifting technology through Carter Crane Hire, using a variety of different cranes from 50 to 350 ton and crawler cranes from 60 to 650 ton. Utilising our heavy lifting team of contractors, we supplied appointed persons and crane supervisors throughout the duration of the contract to plan and control lifting of the 31 metre boilers to the 75 metre chimney stacks.
